To ensure quality and continuity in the production of meat meal, OLEXA® was among the first manufacturers to develop continuous pressure in the animal waste industry. We have also developed associated equipment, across the spectrum: crusher for raw material, finishing crusher (type Calibro), steriliser cooker, screening tank etc.

Animal meal and fat is either recovered or destroyed.

We differentiate between 3 categories of animal by-products (raw materials):

Category 1: Animal by-products destined for destruction.

Products: Ruminants found dead, Specified Risk Materials (SRM), sanitary seizure of ruminants.

Destination: Rendering plants for dehydration and separation of fat (energy recovery only).

Category 2: Animal by-products prohibited for use in animal feed.

Products: Pigs and poultry: animals found dead, sanitary seizure of ruminants

Destination: Rendering plants for dehydration and separation of fat (conversion into energy as C1, as fertilizer or into oleochemicals).

Category 3: Animal by-products that can be converted into animal feed, under conditions.

Products: Waste (excluding SRM) from slaughterhouses or slaughter of healthy animals: ruminants, pigs and poultry. Products from category 3 must be of the same sanitary quality as those products intended for human consumption. The products are treated by species on geographically distinct sites.

Destination: The production of processed animal proteins and the separation of seeds intended for animal feed and all authorised technical conversions.

The process of by-products transformation (varies depending on category) corresponds to the following steps:

  • Crushing of the raw material – different methods of crushing exist in our range
  • Cooking and sterilisation of products- our cookers range from a capacity of 4,000 L to over 180,000 L.
  • Pressure by our MBV screw presses: 1-5 T/Hr, processing of products cooked to extract their fat.
  • By-product treatment:
    • Flour: crushing and sifting
    • Fat: Centrifugation and filtration in order to remove impurities
